The treaty of Waitangi is an agreement between two sides/groups of people, which in this case was the Maori and Pakeha ( The British ). The treaty of Waitangi was signed by The British Crown and just over five hundred Maori chiefs from all over the North Island, on February 6, 1840. This resulted in the declaratiom of the British ruling over New Zealand. The Waitangi treaty was signed in the Bay Of Islands up north. Around 1840-1850 Waitangi day was celebrated by everyone, but these days it's just a long weekend to us. I never actually knew what Waitangi day was about until this morning, it never really occurred to me that it was actually a really big event back in the day.
