Labour Day

In New Zealand Labour day is a public holiday and it is the fourth Monday in October. New Zealand was the first country to have this holiday. We have this day off because of a carpenter, Samuel Parnell who came to work in New Zealand in 1840 and refused to work more than eight hours a day. He fought to have the eight hour day in Wellington and won the right. Many workers that live in New Zealand take the spare time to relax and go away on the long weekend. Labour day was first celebrated on October, 28, 1890 in New Zealand.

My End Of Term 3 Reflection

Learning In The Making Conference 2015 Reflection

Last week on the 11th of September Ngatea Primary School had the Learning In The Making Conference. We started the day off with a Skype with Andrew Cowie he talked to us about cyberbullying, it was a very interesting speech at the start there was a monkey that found a camera crews gear and he took a Selfie with their camera. The Learning In The Making Conference is a conference that has lots of different workshops and presenters, you can choose to be a presenter or not, there were some teacher presenters as well. I went to these four workshops that I went to were shell collage, sharpie tie dye, and a double session of paper mache. My favourite workshop was sharpie tie dye. Sharpie tie dye was my favourite because I really enjoyed drawing on my patterns and the dropping a few drops of rubbing alcohol on to it and watching in spead over the cup. My other favourite one was paper mache, during the session I managed to create an owl for my cousin it is pink and has lots of different textures and colours. At of people learned a great lesson "do NOT trust little children with sand the five seconds that the presenter is gone BOOM! Sand everywhere! I decided to help tidy it up with the presenters I felt a bit bad for them. At the end of the day I got awarded with a chocolate fish for helping tidying up. I really enjoyed the day I hope we have it again next year!

Princess Diana

Most kids have never heard of Princess Diana that's because she died in a car crash in Paris. She had two children, Prince Harry and Prince William. Diana was born July first 1961. Princess Diana got married to Prince Charles, the son of Queen Elizabeth, they were married for 18 years. While married, Diana bore the titles Princess of Wales, Duchess of Cornwall, Duchess of Rothesay and Countess of Chester. Diana remained the object of worldwide media study during and after her marriage, which ended in divorce on 28 August 1996. Media attention and public grief was very large after her death in a car crash in Paris on 31 August 1997, her funeral was televised. Princess Diana loved to help others around the world she did a lot of charity work. Diana grew up in Park House which is on the Queen's Sandringham Estate,n 1968, Diana was sent to Riddlesworth Hall School, an all-girls boarding school. While she was young, she attended a local public school. She did not shine academically, and was moved to West Heath Girls School she was later reorganised to The New School at West Heath in Sevenoaks, Kent, where she was regarded as a poor student, having attempted and failed all of her O-levels twice. However, she showed a particular talent for music as an accomplished pianist. Her outstanding community spirit was recognised with an award from West Heath In 1977, she left West Heath and briefly attended Institut Alpin Videmanette, a finishing school in Rougemont, Switzerland. At about that time, she was united with her future husband, who was in a romantic relationship with her older sister, Sarah. Diana also excelled in swimming and diving, and longed to be a professional ballerina with the Royal Ballet. She studied ballet and tap dance throughout her childhood and teenage years, but felt she grew too tall for the profession. After leaving Institut Alpin Videmanette she moved to London. She began working with children, eventually becoming a nursery assistant at the Young England School. In 1975 she became Lady Diana Spencer after her father inherited the title of Earl Spencer. Her wedding to the Prince of Wales was on 29 of July 1981. It was held at St Pauls Cathedral and it reached a world wide viewing that was more than 750 million people. Throughout Diana's life she was classified as a rebel.  Her work with victims of AIDS could in some ways be seen in this regard. She was one of the first very high profile people to be pictured touching those afflicted with AIDS this had a significant impact in changing people’s opinions and attitudes to the disease it was certainly a charity not following the protocol and tradition of the Royal family. As Princess of Wales, Diana undertook royal duties on behalf of the Queen and represented her at functions overseas. She was celebrated for her charity work and for her support of the International Campaign to Ban Landmines. From 1989, she was president of London's Great Ormond Street Hospital for children, in addition to dozens of other charities. In my opinion Diana was a life saver with all the charity work that she did, to me I really like it how she put others before her and never gave up.

J-Rock Performance

On Tuesday 16th of June Ngatea Primary School participated in J-Rock at Claudelands Arena. I was one out of fifty four children that did it I was one of Julie's friends.I chose to do J-Rock because I thought I would try something new and see how it would go. Well I guess I chose right because I have enjoyed the whole thing so much and really just the whole experience of it was amazing. Just before we went on stage we had to let all of the nervousness go and  just enjoy the moment and try your best. We got awarded four awards I'm not sure what they were but it doesn't really matter because we all enjoyed it. J-Rock is a on stage dance performance that tells you a story without talking. Our performance was about the gaming world. The main character is Julie (the one wearing the red dress) For her bithday she gets a console for her birthday, although she has to make a choice between her friends or the console. But she starts getting confused of what is real and what is not.

What I Would Do With One Million Dollars

This week I am doing my blog post about what I would do with one million dollars. There is a list of what I would buy down the right side of the page. If I was able to buy all of this I think that I would be living a dream probably living a life of a millionaire. There are a few pictures one of my house, the cutest puppy ever and my customised converse. When I was doing this post I had to think quite a bit about what I would do with the leftover money I was thinking and I finally decided that I would give it to a charity I searched up some charities and I found the Cancer Foundation I'm not sure how much money I would have left because it was too hard to take that much away from on million but it is more than 50,00 dollars.

Queen's Birthday Weekend, Is her birthday really in June?

The Queen's real birthday is actually April 21, 1926 so her age is 89. The Queen’s Birthday is celebrated in New Zealand on the first Monday of June each year. In other parts of the world, however, it’s celebrated at different times. In the UK, for instance it can fall variously on the first, second or third Saturday of June and it’s not even a public holiday. In Canada it’s rolled in with Victoria Day and is celebrated on Queen Victoria’s birth date of 24th May. And the Aussies take their Queen’s Birthday day off on the second Monday in June. How can one woman have so many different birthdays? Well, the holidays celebrated in Commonwealth countries to mark the Sovereign’s birthday mark the Queen’s official birthday, not her real one of 21st April 1926.The fact that holidays for the Queen’s official birthday fall on different dates in different countries is a result of historical tradition.
