My Weekly News

Donald Trumps Star On The Walk Of Fame Gets Its Own Wall

When the Presidential Candidate Donald Trump announced he was going to build a wall between America and Mexico, the world was shocked. There have been many protests about Trump's wall. But the most creative protest has been "Plastic Jesus" mini wall around Trump's star. Plastic Jesus’ wall stands at 15cm tall, and the width of Donald’s Star. The mini wall has lots of creative additions on it such as, signs that read “STOP MAKING STUPID PEOPLE FAMOUS” and many “KEEP OUT” signs. Along with mini American flags.

I think that this is a very creative way to protest! I would love to go and visit this absolute work of art!!!!!

I wonder how many more people have visited his start because of the mini wall!

Vocab Words From The Articles

I did not find any words that I did not know!

IE Ignition!

IE Ignition Blog Post

My IE project this year is going to be about ocean water pollution. I hope to understand more about what ocean water pollution is and what is polluting the ocean. I would like to find out the ways that we could help reduce ocean water pollution. I will need to know what are the toxic chemicals that are being dumped into our oceans, what water pollution actually is, and what we can do to help ocean water pollution before it’s too late. By then end of my inquiry, I hope to be able to help ocean water pollution and make other aware of what it is!

I think that through this inquiry I will be using all of the learning powers. But the ones that I will be using the most are ALL OF THEM!! Curiosity, being curious to find out about ocean pollution. Being me, sticking with my own idea, pursuing with it and being original! Creativity, I think that I will be using this lots when I am making my creation! ( this is the part that I am really looking forward to! ) Resilience, as I said before pursuing with my own idea and never giving up on it even when it’s tough. And last but not least Connecting, I will be using this learning power lots throughout my inquiry asking experts who know lots about my topic some of my questions to find out more!

I am really looking forward to learning about ocean pollution! I hope to find out all my brain can possibly hold!

Swimming Sports

School Swimming Sports!!!

Yesterday, Ngatea Primary School held their swimming sports! My house is Orewa and we were competing against three other houses.

The day started off with the individual medley, I participated in this event and came third! After the medley, we had one and two length freestyle. I won both of these events in my heat. We then moved on to the backstroke one and two lengths. I came first in those too. Then there was the butterfly, I came second in my heat in that too! Last of my single events was breaststroke. I competed in the one and two length races. I came second in the one length and third in the two lengths!

Yesterday was a great day, I really enjoyed all of the inside jokes we made up and having fun with my friends. I am very happy with my results from yesterday! And I am looking forward to Hauraki Plains!!!!!

Read Theory Online!!

Read Theory!

We have started a new online activity, it is Read Theory. First of all this website give you a pretest to see what level you are on. After it has found out what level you are on, it gives you a short story on a completely random topic. Then it gives you lots of questions to see if you understand the text. After each test, it shows you your progress and level.

I think that this will help me lots with my learning throughout the year. By giving me reading at my exact level and showing me what level I am on after every single test. Here is a picture of what it looks like (click on the images to make it bigger):

Marama Biggest Reader!!!

This year we are continuing with Marama Biggest Reader. The Biggest Reader is a competition in which all of the learning teams from our class have an estimated time that they read the night before and put it onto a google spreadsheet. The whole learning teams times are added together and at the end of the term, the team with the most points gets a prize!!

Port Hills Fires, Christchurch

Port Hills Fires, Christchurch

The Port Hills fires started late afternoon on February 13th. The first fire that started was on Early Valley road, around and hour and a half later another fire started on Marley's Hill. They were only a few kilometres apart, but by Wednesday the two fires had joined together.

During Wednesday the fire had spread and burnt over around 2,500 acres. About 1000 Christchurch residents had to be evacuated out of their homes. In the 24 hours from Wednesday morning to Thursday morning, the fire had doubled in size to over 4,900 acres. This was because aerial firefighting can only happen during the day. 8 houses have been burned down due to the fire.

The cause of the fires is still unknown, although there are some suspicions around the fact that both fires were only kilometres apart and started 90 minutes apart raised the suspicions. Although there was another theory, early reports suggested an electrical fault had started the Early Valley fire, while the source of the Marleys Hill fire was unknown.

My guess is that the fires could have possibly been started deliberately. New Zealand has been having very hot and dry weather lately so I think that that could have added to the problem.
