Camp Reflection

My goal for camp was to have a go at all of the activities and have a go! I think that I definitely achieved this goal because at Rockin Ropes I stepped out of my comfort zone and gave the giant swing a go! I really enjoyed it. I went to camp so I could build positive relationships with others in my class. While I was at camp I learnt lots about myself and what leadership qualities that I have and how to use them when I was working in a team with others.

I am so proud of myself for doing the swing at Rockin Ropes because when I was looking at it from the ground I could see the platform at the top of the 15-metre high pole swinging. It was really intimidating but as soon as I started climbing up I knew that I couldn’t go back down. But my least favourite thing was getting a hugeeeee wedgie from the harness. The swing was by far the scariest thing that I did on camp.

My favourite thing I did at camp was kayaking down the Huka Falls river! For the kayaking, I was in a kayak by myself. We started in a lagoon and then kayaked off down the river. We had the coolest instructor, his name was Robbie. He took lots of photos for us. He even splashed us while we were kayaking. Half way through the kayak we stopped a little hot spring. The best part of it was going down the rapids at the end and quickly turning off before we go on an unpleasant journey down the falls!

The funniest thing that happened on camp was probably when I went to visit Ayisha, Aly, Lara and Emma’s cabin and they told me about “Jimmy” the ghost who stole the tv remote and kept turning on the tv. Everyone thought it was Ayisha! I really enjoyed making lots of positive relationships with others and doing activities with people who I don’t usually work with.

When we went to the Huka Prawn Park I found out that catching prawns is actually really hard. First, we went for a walk around the park, we fed the trout and did the water activities. Then we went for a tour of the park and got to see where the prawns grow up, we got to feed the baby prawns and the tour guide showed us how to catch the prawns. I thoroughly enjoyed catching the prawns. I ended up catching four (with the help of Finn).  It was really funny because I had a little bit of bait on my rod so I left it in the water and went to go get some lunch. When I came back I had a pleasant surprise and there was a prawn hanging on the end!

My favourite parent helper was Rachel Barker because she was super encouraging when we were doing the amazing race even when we went the wrong way and encouraged us to step out of our comfort zone in the activities that we did. She was a great driver and cabin mum. I was impressed by Dilyn and Josh M for putting up with our music in the car! And at Rocking Ropes they stepped out of their comfort zone and went on the swing.

Overall I had an amazing camp experience, I wish it was longer though!

My Leadership Hero

My Nana is my leadership hero because she has great leadership qualities such as an open mind, positivity, originality and much more. I look up to my Nana because she has the willingness to help with anything and help the community. My Nana is a part of the local Lionesses club. They play an active part in the local community, helping those less fortunate, as well as enjoying a social life with others in the community. I am very proud to have a Nana who is so involved with the community and is always happy to help

My Leadeship Quote

I chose this as my leadership quote because to be honest sometimes I don't make the right choice of where I sit, so I'm going to start thinking of this quote whenever I think of where to sit. I would like to be a wonderful leader and this is a step on my way.

My Self As A Leader

This week we have been focusing on leadership. This Tagul shows how I am as a leader. It shows my positive qualities and values. Click on the image to see how I am as a leader more closely.

Before Camp Questions

Before Camp Questions

What is your goal for camp? And why are you going to camp?

My goal is to challenge myself at all of the activities and have a go! I am going to camp so I can build positive relationships with others in my class and have an awesome learning experience outside of school.

What skills, strengths, qualities and powers do you possess that will help you have a very successful camp experience?

I have a growth mindset, courage, positivity, encouraging, self-controlled, trustworthy, cheerful and friendly. I think that I will use these qualities when I am working with my team at activities.

What will you do if you have a problem at camp? Who will you speak to? What will help you solve your problem?

I will ask the driver of my car or my homeroom teacher. But I will try to solve the problem by myself first, and then go and ask.

How will you be an effective team member in your car group, activity group and cabin group? What will we see or hear?

I will encourage, be positive, be friendly towards my car group, activity group and cabin group to make sure that they all feel welcome and supported by their team.

IE Research Email Back!

I emailed the Ministry Of The Environment to ask them a few questions about water pollution for my IE! Here is what they answered

What is water pollution doing to our environment?

Marine pollution threatens the health of our coasts and ocean and it comes in many different forms. Marine pollution can mean plastic litter, other litter such as glass bottles and cans, oil and chemical spills or polluted stormwater drains and rivers flowing into the sea.
The effect these have on the marine environment depends on the type of pollution, the size of the pollution and where the pollution occurs. Some marine environments and types of marine life are more sensitive than others to pollution. The pollution may damage individual sea creatures or plants, or it may damage whole communities of different living things.
How can we reduce the amount of pollution that we are putting into the ocean?

Preventing marine pollution is vital for the well-being of the sea, the marine life it supports and us! Cleaner oceans mean we can continue to enjoy our beaches for swimming, fishing and recreation.

There’s plenty you can do, either on your own or in a group, to make a huge difference.

Hauraki Plains Swimming Sports

HP Swimming Sports

Yesterday I participated in Hauraki Plains Swimming Sports. I was so excited to participate in this event! There were many schools there from all over the Hauraki Plains. We race in heats of our age group, we are timed and the two fastest time out of the heats go to Thames Valley.

The day started off with the individual medley, I sat in my seat put on my goggles… SNAP!!! My goggles had snapped. I thought that was great! So I had to swim my whole race without goggles. In my breaststroke three lengths, can you guess what happened!? My goggles were stuck over my mouth for the WHOLE RACE!

I participated in many events such as 1 length free, 1 length butterfly, two and three lengths back and breaststroke. I also participated in the senior girls and the flying squad relay! In the relays, we came second in the senior girls and first in the flying squad. (The flying squad is made up of the fastest swimmers in each age group).

I overall thoroughly enjoyed Hauraki Plains Swimming Sports! I am very happy with my results! My next goal is that I get into Thames Valley Swimming Sports!!!!

(I will put up some pictures later)
